But there is American winge-pop. Cannot deny the American winge-pop. For instance, and this is a real line from a band called Greenwheel *while cying with laughter*:
'It's alright. It's alright. It only hurts when I breathe.' |

Re: Coldplay a little survey
Yup, yawn fest for me.. I can recognise that they are talented in what they do, yet their songs are all similar to my ears, and I do literally feel like napping while listening to them. Bring on some heavy drums already! ;P

Re: Coldplay a little survey
Hype is a killer, full stop - so best to completely ignore it.
Luckily, I'm something of a cultural recluse, so I have almost no idea about what's going on in popular culture, so I miss all that. ![]() I bought Rush of Blood to the head while trying to find new music to listen to, and hated it at first - but now we have the first 3 albums and really like them - we play them in the car whenever we go on a long drive around Scotland. ![]() Nothing really lives up to hype - so I'm glad I don't have that context to fight against. ![]() A couple more older threads on Coldplay here as well, in case anyone's interested: http://www.chronicles-network.com/fo...-coldplay.html http://www.chronicles-network.com/fo...-of-sound.html

Re: Coldplay a little survey
I would have swore i replied to this thread... anyhoo!
I think coldplay are ok, I haven't picked up the new albums, but I do have parachutes, which is a cracking album, and the other album (omg, forgotten what its called!). The fact that it was one of the only albums I could play at work where everything actually didn't mind too much was good as well. So they have mass appeal. (even though we did all agree that too much coldplay made us want to slit our wrists). Saying that though, I saw them live in 2002, and it wasn't the best gig I've been too. They have no stage presence. And Chris' voice grates on you so much more live ![]() |

Re: Coldplay a little survey
I like Coldplay, although they are admittedly a bit samey. They only really have a couple of basic song ideas, but they do them well. I do prefer the tracks which are more guitar-based (such as "Shiver" or "Yellow") rather than those based on Chris Martin playing the piano (such as "Trouble" or "The Scientist").
